120V home saunas: why 15A and 20A requirements differ

Voltage is only the first line of the specification

Several saunas can share a nominal voltage while requiring different supply arrangements. The reviewed Sedona record lists 120V and a 15A circuit. The selected Equinox 2 and Arki Outdoor Duo records specify 120V with dedicated 20A requirements. Calling them all standard-outlet products would hide a purchasing constraint.

Compare the exact configuration, not a brand-wide rule. Optional equipment, changed heater systems and different generations can alter the documentation. Do not calculate an installation circuit from rated watts or assume that a familiar-looking connector proves the circuit behind it is suitable.

Indoor and outdoor records must stay separate

The Arki Outdoor Duo OD21 has its own manual, which specifies a dedicated 120V/20A outlet, accessibility within four feet and plug-in operation. Its installation conditions are not inherited from the indoor Arki. Our review found a 15A-versus-20A discrepancy in the indoor documents and retained that record as unresolved.

This distinction is useful even if you own neither product: a matching series name cannot substitute for the exact model manual. If a sales page and start-up guide disagree, request written confirmation identifying the delivered revision before deciding the outlet or approving a location.

A 120V shortlist still needs a room check

Supply is not the only reason a candidate can fail. An indoor-only cabinet does not become an outdoor model because a covered outlet is nearby. Exterior size, roof access, ventilation, door movement and supporting surfaces remain independent conditions. A circuit match cannot compensate for an unsuitable environment.

Enter only the supply details you actually know in the fit tool. Leave phase, frequency or connection unknown where appropriate. A missing field produces a question rather than an assumed pass. Use the result to prepare an electrician or manufacturer conversation, not as instructions to alter a circuit.

Ask for the complete electrical answer

Save the exact SKU, manual revision, published voltage and amperage, plug or hardwired requirement and any separate supply for lighting or controls. Ask whether optional equipment changes the requirement. The actual site still needs the checks required by the manufacturer and the relevant local professional.
